How to Choose Between Large and Small Shredders?

When selecting a metal shredder, businesses often struggle with the choice between small and large equipment. The two differ significantly in processing capacity, applicable scenarios, and investment costs. Only by choosing based on specific needs can resource waste or insufficient capacity be avoided.

In terms of applicable scenarios, small metal shredders (usually models below 600) are compact, occupying only 3-5 square meters of space. They are suitable for small recycling points, hardware processing plants, etc., primarily processing materials such as aluminum cans, scrap wire, and small scrap metal parts, with a daily processing capacity of less than 5 tons. Large metal shredders (models above 800) require a production line and are suitable for large recycling stations and smelters. They can process scrap steel, end-of-life vehicles, and large metal components, with a daily processing capacity of over 50 tons.

Regarding investment and operating costs, small equipment has a lower initial investment, with a market price of approximately 50,000-150,000 RMB. It requires fewer supporting equipment, can be operated by 1-2 people, and has a daily electricity cost of only 50-100 RMB, making it suitable for companies with limited funds and low production demands. Large-scale equipment requires significant investment, with basic models costing 300,000-800,000 yuan and customized production lines reaching several million yuan. It requires 3-5 operators and has daily electricity costs of 300-800 yuan. However, the unit processing cost is lower; for example, large equipment costs approximately 20 yuan per ton of metal, while small equipment costs around 35 yuan.

From a flexibility and scalability perspective, small metal shredders are easy to move and can be flexibly adjusted according to the location of recycling points. If capacity demand increases later, additional equipment can be added to form a smaller production line. Large-scale equipment, once installed and commissioned, is difficult to move. However, if capacity is planned in advance, processing capacity can be increased by adding auxiliary equipment (such as conveyor lines and sorting machines), making it suitable for companies with long-term, stable, large-scale production needs.

When choosing equipment, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the company’s business scale, material type, and financial situation. If the initial stage focuses on small-batch recycling, small equipment is the most cost-effective choice; if large-scale production is planned, large equipment is better suited to meet long-term development needs.
